... CAM Programming – TecVENTIONS

CAM Programming

Todays CAM programming is incredibly powerful and a must have to compete in the todays High Tech world.  My CAM experience began when CAM was only available to main frames and Unix Workstations.

I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time in this emerging technology.  I discovered Computer Aided Manufacturing as a product engineer for Textron Automotive.  Tasked with bringing this new tech in house to the Tooling and Equipment Group in Dover NH, we began with a Sun SPARC station and SDRC.  This rapidly grew into a total transformation of how tools of all sorts were built from simple 3 axis milling through full 5 Axis positional and continuous motion  capabilities using Cimatron and Work NC.

  • Turnkey CAM Programming Services

Proven, Crash-Free CNC Programs from Simple 3-Axis to Simultaneous 5-Axis & Multi-Turret Lathes

Eliminate programming bottlenecks, minimize machine downtime, and push your shop’s spindle utilization to its peak. Whether you need fast cycle times for production milling or complex multi-channel synchronization for Swiss and mill-turn centers, we deliver 100% turnkey, machine-ready G-code packages built to run right the first time.

Why Outsource Your CAM Programming to Us?

  • Zero Machine Downtime: We verify every operation with full digital machine simulation and gouge protection before code ever hits your controller.

  • True Turnkey Packages: We don't just send code; you get comprehensive setup sheets, tool lists, datum instructions, and 3D simulation files.

  • Scalable Capacity on Demand: Take on high-margin, complex jobs without the overhead of hiring specialized in-house programmers or buying expensive module licenses.

    Full-Spectrum Machining Capabilities

1. 3-Axis & 4-Axis Production Milling

High-efficiency toolpaths engineered for speed, rigid setups, and repeatability.

  • Dynamic roughing and high-feed trochoidal strategies to maximize MRR (Material Removal Rate).

  • Optimized finishing passes for critical sealing surfaces and tight-tolerance bores.

  • 4th-axis rotary index and continuous toolpaths for tombstone and multi-sided setups.

2. Complex & Continuous 5-Axis Machining

Mastery over complex geometries, deep pockets, and undercut features that require continuous motion.

  • 3+2 Positional Machining: Minimize setups, eliminate re-fixturing errors, and utilize short, rigid cutting tools.

  • Simultaneous 5-Axis: Smooth continuous tool orientation for blisks, impellers, aerospace ports, turbine blades, and complex mold cavities.

  • Collision Avoidance

3. Multi-Axis Mill-Turn & Multi-Turret Lathes

Specialized multi-channel programming for complex mill-turn centers.

  • Multi-Turret Synchronization: Balanced roughing, pinch-turning, and simultaneous machining across upper and lower turrets.

  • Sub-Spindle Handoffs: Seamless, verified pick-off cycles and phase-matched part transfers with zero risk of collision.

  • Live Tooling Integration: C-axis, Y-axis, and B-axis rotary milling, off-center cross-drilling, and angled surface machining.

Advanced Tooling & Complex Surface Machining

For the most demanding tooling, mold-making, and high-complexity surface machining, our capabilities extend into specialized CAM environments. We leverage the unique strengths of these platforms to tackle complex geometries that standard CAM packages struggle with.

Cimatron: Precision Tooling & Hybrid Modeling

Recognized as an industry leader for tool, die, and mold manufacturing, we utilize Cimatron to tackle complex injection mold cavities, core inserts, and intricate production parts.

  • Hybrid Solid Modeling Integration: Seamlessly handles complex surfaces and solid models to generate highly efficient, gouge-free toolpaths.

  • Superior Surface Finishes: Optimized micro-milling and advanced finishing strategies drastically reduce the need for manual polishing and bench-work.

  • Optimized Roughing: High-volume material removal strategies tailored for hard metals and complex tooling components.

WorkNC: Unmatched Reliability for Complex Geometries

When it comes to automated 2- to 5-axis toolpaths, WorkNC delivers unmatched reliability for complex, heavy-stock machining.

  • Collision-Free 5-Axis: Smooth, dynamic, and safe 5-axis continuous toolpaths ideal for deep cavities, undercuts, and large-scale aerospace or automotive components.

  • Dynamic Stock Models: Highly efficient rest-machining ensures the cutter is only engaged where material remains, eliminating air-cutting and reducing cycle times.

Seamless Integration: Tested, Back-Plotted G-Code

You don’t need a seat of Cimatron or WorkNC on your floor to benefit from their power.

We support your native shop-floor systems by delivering turnkey, machine-ready programs that drop seamlessly into your existing workflow. We don't just send raw toolpaths; we deliver peace of mind.

  • Rigorous Back-Plotting & Verification: Every line of code is extensively back-plotted and digitally simulated against your machine’s exact kinematics. We verify tool clearances, holder collisions, and axis over-travel limits before the program ever leaves our desk.

  • Native Controller Customization: The code you receive is posted out and formatted precisely for your native controller's language (Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens, Haas, Mazatrol EIA), including your specific canned cycles and macro functions.

  • Plug-and-Play Setup: Your operators receive the verified G-Code alongside detailed setup sheets, tool lists, and verification reports. The program is ready to load, setup, and run on your native equipment with absolute confidence.

What’s Included in Every Turnkey Package

We deliver everything your setup operator needs to get the first part cut cleanly and safely:

Deliverable Details
Machine-Ready G-Code Tailored to your specific machine, controller (Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens, Mazak, Haas), and custom post-processors.
Tooling & Holder List Prescribed tool types, holder extensions, minimum flute stick-out lengths, and manufacturer grade/geometry suggestions.

How It Works

  1. Submit Your CAD & Print: Upload your 3D model (STEP, IGES, Parasolid, or native CAD) along with GD&T drawings and material specs.

  2. Machine & Tooling Review: Share your target machine make/model, controller, available tool library, and workholding constraints.

  3. Toolpath Engineering & Simulation: We program, optimize, and run full collision and gouge verifications against your virtual machine kinematics.

  4. Deliver & Cut Chips: Receive your complete turnkey G-code package ready for setup. I stand behind our programs with post-delivery technical support.

This mold is a 4 cavity family mold for my large TwisTUBE components. It is a very compact mold designed to run in smaller shot size injection mold presses and the hydraulic ejection was added for the extra ejector stroke needed on the smaller presses. It also is a family mold that produces both components in the same mold reducing startup and initial tooling cost. This mold is made of NAK55 mold steel with an optical polish on the clear Knob component. Mold cycle times are a very respectable 22 seconds.
